INTRODUCTION

Medical micro-needling

The amount of collagen in the skin steadily decreases as the skin ages. This leads to a decrease in the skin's ability to bind water. In turn, elasticity decreases, making the skin look saggy and aged.
Areas exposed to the sun, such as the face or the décolletage, are most often affected and are particularly suitable for therapy. Stretch marks on the skin, as they can appear after pregnancy or significant changes in weight, have been difficult to treat until now. Micro-needling finally offers an effective therapeutic approach for this, too.

Everything you need to know about medical micro-needling

Medical micro-needling, also known as collagen induction therapy (CIT), is an almost side-effect-free way of lastingly improving the appearance and quality of the skin. This is achieved by stimulating collagen synthesis, i.e. the formation of new collagen.

The amount of collagen in the skin steadily decreases as the skin ages, leading to a decrease in the skin's ability to bind water.

Medical micro-needling can also be used to treat conspicuous scars, as they are softer, flatter and less visible after the treatment.

In medical micro-needling, a roller fitted with needles of a defined length is moved with controlled pressure over the areas of treatment, causing minor trauma to the dermis. This is followed by a release of growth factors, which in turn triggers the formation of new collagen.

To improve skin quality on the face, needles with a length of 1-2 mm are used. The therapy can be carried out under local anaesthesia of the skin using a special ointment.

There are no open wounds. Reddening of the skin and swelling disappears entirely within a few days. The healing process is comparable to that of a sunburn.

To treat deep acne scars, burn scars or conditions covering larger areas of the skin, the therapy should be carried out under a short general anaesthetic with a needle length of 2-3 mm to achieve the desired effect.

To maximise the desired effect, the skin areas to be covered should be treated with a skin cream containing vitamin A and vitamin C for 3-4 weeks before and after the procedure.

No depigmentation occurs and no healthy skin is removed. The formation of new collagen lastingly improves the quality of the skin and thus helps treat one of the causes of skin ageing. The treatment is almost free of the side effects of laser treatments, deep peels or abrasion of the skin (dermabrasion).

The skin texture is more even and the skin is generally firmer.
