Treatments for excessive sweating (Hyperhidrosis)

It's summer, 40 degrees in the shade – While dogs pant, humans regulate their body temperature differently: they sweat, which cools their skin and prevents the organism from overheating. But if the body produces an excessive and uncontrollable amount of sweat, regardless of temperature, time of day or season, what is a vital process becomes a burden for the person affected. Depending on the body region, various therapy concepts offer relief, ranging from treatment with botulinum toxin type A to the complete removal of the sweat glands.

Everything you need to know about treatment for excessive sweating

Increased perspiration beyond normal levels can be very uncomfortable and even inhibiting. Heavy sweating can, for instance, affect your social and work life.

The treatment concepts vary depending on the affected region. In the area of the palms and feet, treatment with botulinum toxin A is an option. It paralyses the muscles of the sweat glands and the intense perspiration (hyperhidrosis) in the treated areas is stopped.

In the armpit area, treatment with botulinum toxin can also be carried out successfully.

As a permanent solution, the surgical removal of the sweat glands is possible. This can be done openly with a skin spindle , or minimally invasive by “scraping off“ the sweat glands from the inside. For this, as with liposuction, only small surgical incisions of around 2-3 mm are necessary, through which the loosened cells can then be removed by suction without any problems.

In a personal consultation, we will advise you on the possibilities – together we will find the procedure that is right for you.

  • Duration of the operation: around 1 hour
  • Type of anaesthesia: Local anaesthesia with or without twilight sleep
  • Stay: Outpatient or overnight stay – naturally, it depends on your wishes
  • Removal of the stitches after 14 days
  • Pressure bandage in the armpit area for 2-3 days
  • Check-ups take place 1, 7 and 14 days after the operation.
  • Further appointments can be arranged upon request.

Do not take blood-thinning medication such as Aspirin, ASA, Plavix, Marcumar, etc. for 14 days before a planned operation!
